Foster Care information sessions in Edinburgh Churches over Easter.
The National Fostering Agency Scotland is delighted to announce Foster Care information sessions running in Edinburgh Churches over the Easter Holidays in a bid to find new carers in the Edinburgh/Lothian area.
Currently there are 1,328 "looked after children" in Edinburgh City and a shortage of around 1,700 foster carer families in Scotland as a whole.
The National Fostering Agency is keen to speak with anyone who can offer a secure, safe and loving environment for a child from the Edinburgh/Lothian area. In return they offer fantastic training, the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications, on-going support, advice and supervision as well as a generous weekly allowance.
Special information sessions are taking place in Edinburgh where you can find out what it's like to be a foster carer. Come along this Wednesday or Thursday and tell us what you've got to offer:
Wednesday the 14th April, 12.30 to 3pm
The Perc- U- Up Cafe in South Leith Parish Church Hall, Leith.
Thursday the 15th of April, 12.30 to 3pm
The Butterflies Cafe, Marchmont St Giles Church, Marchmont.
Both events are on between 12.30 and 3pm.
Children welcome.
Applicants are welcome from all backgrounds and the National Fostering Agency Scotland currently engage with Foster Carers from all sections of the community, many with vastly different backgrounds and life experiences. The minimum requirement is that you have a spare bedroom and a commitment to work towards positive outcomes for the children and young people whom may be placed in your care.

Edinburgh 2010
During 2010 we will be marking the Centenary of the Edinburgh 1910 World
Mission Conference that was a great inspiration to the development of Christian
Mission in the 20th century and also to the formation of the modern Ecumenical
Movement. In January local churches and local ecumenical groupings are encouraged
to use the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity material that was prepared
in Scotland and is available to download at http://www.ctbi.org.uk/415/
A leaflet has been produced to encourage local churches and local ecumenical
groupings of churches to arrange their own events to mark the centenary.

A Study Conference is to be held
on the 2nd - 6th June 2010 in Edinburgh.
This will culminate on Sunday 6th with a day of celebration involving local
churches. It is planned that the 250 international delegates will worship
in local churches in the Edinburgh area in the morning, then be hosted for
lunch and finally accompanied back with their hosts to attend a closing
celebration in the General Assembly Hall on the Mound starting at 3.00pm.
Spaces will be limited but Churches hosting a delegate will be guaranteed
a ticket or two for local the local folk who accompany the delegates (who
will have tickets reserved for them). Further tickets are to be widely allocated
to churches throughout Britain and ireland as well as to other international
visitors to Edinburgh. For those unable to attend there will be a live webcast
of the closing celebration.
If your church is interested in hosting a delegate please email
and we will begin the process of matching up willing delegates and willing
churches in the New Year to give time for contact to be established before
they reach Scotland.

Back in Edinburgh, there will be a reception at the council chambers and a visit to Edinburgh Castle. If you would like to know more, get in touch with either Suzette Bell (Secretary) on 0131 334 5241or Niall Martin (Treasurer) on 0131 467 8468.
