Something
for everyone....
Regular
Open Events
For
Adults Only.....
In recent years we have
started a tradition of having a "Time
Out" evening for everyone working with children.
This year it was held at the end of the session in June 2006.
This is the one evening
in the year when we can think only of ourselves - not our children!
We reaffirm the work we are doing in Children's Ministry,
in worship, fellowship, displays of useful materials and resources,
not to mention the chat over coffee. All of that combines to give
us a new strength and feeling of renewal under God as we rise to
the challenge of another session.
For
Children, Too.....
At least one larger event
for children is organised during the season, which is a chance for
children too, to discover they are not the only Christians "on
the block". This session it was a fun sports-based event
in May 2006 - "Sports and Things". see the review
below.
And...
Those are only the start
- other events may be offered also. This page will be updated
regularly to keep you in touch.

- "A Closer Walk....."
More than 60 people from
34 churches took part in one or more of this series of five seminars,
exploring the theme of spirituality in our worship and work with
children. The discussions covered our Approach to God, Prayer,
Praise and Using the Bible, as well as the session on Godly Play
mentioned above. New lines of thought were opened up for many
people, and every church which was represented was sent a follow
up pack of a summary of the points which came out of each session,
as well as useful handouts. This pack is available for general
use. Please contact me to obtain a copy.

- "Sports and Things"
Saturday 6 May, 2006 was
a lovely day - our guardian angel smiled on us in a week of very
unsettled weather, and we only had one short shower to contend with
throughout the event.
The headquarters of the
Boys Brigade in Edinburgh played host to around 100 children and
a good many adults as well, for a day of fun and games, with football
always a clear favourite, but with lots of takers for rounders,
Kwik Cricket, Speed Bouce, Foam Javelin, races, parachute games
and giant board games as well - not forgetting lots of arts and
crafts when we needed a break from all that activity!
We had two guest presenters
who added a great extra dimension - Poppy Browne, our Storyteller,
held her audience rapt with her giant pop-up story books, and Steve
the Juggler not only entertained us with his juggling performances,
but let us try out our circus skills under his expert guidance.
Lots of happy people went
home at 3 o'clock after a thoroughly good day out. More than
one person asked "When are you doing it again?"
Good question!
See below for one or two
photos to remind us of the day!

We all count to three as our VIP guests get ready to cut
the ribbon to start the event. Mark Lazarowicz MP,
Anne Mulligan, the Presbytery Moderator, and
Jim Ralston, Chief Executive of the BB Battalion, all enjoyed
their time with us.

Poppy Browne tells these children a story from one of her
giant storybooks.

It’s the sack race!

Parachute games are always popular.

- Godly Play Workshop
Old St Paul's Church,
Jeffrey Street
Saturday 27 May, 10.00
- 4.00
This workshop, run by
Rev Carrie Upton, was the next step for several
Children's Workers from Edinburgh Presbytery who had either been
at, or had heard about, the short introductory seminar which formed
part of the "A Closer Walk" series in early 2006.
On this occasion we experienced a complete Godly Play session,
had a look at the materials used, and were encouraged to ask questions
before hearing another Godly Play story. Again the session
was an inspiration for all who were there.
For all who are starting
to find themselves curious about the method and why it works so
well, please note that I am hoping to organise another starter
session in the autumn. Watch this space.

- "Time Out 2006"
Polwarth Church, Polwarth
Terrace
7.30 to 9.00
What a wonderful setting
for the customary evening to round off our season of hard work!
Polwarth Church was lit by candles and decorated with all the glorious
symbols of Pentecost. That, combined with the intimate
worship, both refreshed our spirit and inspired us to greater things,
helping us to find the "sacred space" which has dominated
our work this season. That was followed by wine and cheese,
and with new resources to browse through and enjoy, those who came
found the whole event a blessing. Sadly not many people came
out to join us - lovely weather and the World Cup might have had
something to do with it!
Our guests presenting
worship were Lisa Clark, former Adviser in Adult Education,
Anne Mulligan, Moderator of Edinburgh
Presbytery, and Rev Dorothy Anderson,
Minister of Outreach at St Andrew's and St George's,
with the gentle music of John Patterson providing
a fitting backdrop.
